The dynamics of the design field are rapidly evolving, where physical and digital products, systems, services, and the application of emerging technologies are increasingly intertwined. The Industrial Design (ID) Program at the University of Houston is committed to pioneering the education pedagogy with a Systems Design approach that integrates UX/UI Design into Product Experience Design (PXD) with an emphasis on advanced technology. This tenure-track position reflects the program’s strategic plan of strengthening the curriculum focus on Systems Design. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a thorough understanding and expertise in the related areas and have experience leading research and design in an academic or industry setting. The candidate will likely be using emerging technologies to conduct research, and integrating these technologies within a broader system and experience-focused design paradigm. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the ongoing development of the advanced curriculum, engage in effective teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, and maintain a scholarly and practice-based research program. The incumbent will have and create opportunities to engage with industry partners, fostering relationships that yield collaborative projects and design-based research initiatives.

As a member of the academic faculty at the College of Architecture and Design, this tenure track position will be responsible for leading research in the focused areas, offering studio and specialized elective courses and services:

 Industry experience is preferred, specifically in UX/UI Design, Product Design, Systems Design, or Service Design.

Minimum Qualifications:

<li>8+ years of digital product visual / experience design, with 2+ of those years in director-level management. A passion for managing and mentoring designers. </li>
<li>Deep understanding of user-centered design methods – especially related to digital products – and the ability to work at all levels of the process. </li>
<li>Background in healthcare, public health, and/or population health design work is a plus. Demonstrable UI and visual design skills with a strong portfolio - you must be able to showcase and speak to your portfolio, and how your work qualifies you for this role. Experience developing and evolving design systems. </li>
<li>Experience designing mobile-first and for responsive websites. </li>
<li>Experience with user research throughout the product lifecycle, incorporating data from multiple sources into decision making. Experience with Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, HTML and CSS is a plus.</li>

As a Senior Web Designer, you are the design lead on projects beside the content lead and project manager. The three of you together are the core team. As a lead, you may pull in brand design for building out a brand with the client, pull on the 3D Designer or Motion Designer to support with your vision. THE SCHOOL: The internationally renowned School of Design (SOD) offers five undergraduate programs in 3D Digital Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design, and New Media Design, as well as two graduate programs in Industrial Design and Visual Communication Design. SOD also includes the Vignelli Center for Design Studies, with its vast archive of relevant design artifacts and their process. SOD is a creative community where students discover their unique talents and expressive potential, all while developing the skills needed to fulfill any creative or technical role in the expansive fields of design. SOD has an enrollment of over 800 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. THE COLLEGE: RIT&#39;s College of Art and Design is the university&#39;s creative hub where art, design, science, and technology intersect in our 200,000+ sq. ft. facility. We are a dynamic and professional arts and design community comprised of nearly 2,000 students (UG and Grad), 140 full-time faculty, 60 creative staff, and a number of professional part-time faculty, all of whom contribute to our College’s ecosystem. The College’s four schools offer programs in Art, Design, Crafts, Film and Animation, Photography and Photographic Sciences. Required Minimum Qualifications
• MFA/MA in Graphic Design or a graduate degree in a related field of study
• Minimum of two years fulltime professional experience in graphic design and/or a related design field
• Teaching experience at the university level (may include: college level adjunct or teaching assistant experience)
• Demonstrated a fluency in practice areas, such as Typography, Information Design, Experiential Design, Systems Design, Interactive Design, Web Design, Motion Design, Packaging Design, etc.
• Demonstrated proficiency in graphic design theory and practice
• Demonstrated an expertise in graphic design across traditional and emerging medias
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college’s continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences

The School of Design focuses on developing strong conceptual and formal visual communication skills.
